Bitcoin began.  10,000 bitcoin would be used to buy two pizzas in 2009.
Sony sold over 12 million floppy disks that year, but manufacture of floppy disks would end 2 years later.
All TV Stations–1600 in the USA–switched from analog to digital.

Wil Farrel’s movie reboot of the kid’s TV show from 1974, Land of the Lost, could have been called Land of the Lost PROFITS.  It cost $100 Million to make but grossed only $68 Million, received 7 Golden Raspberry Award nominations and “won” one of them for “Worst Prequel, Remake, Ripoff or Sequel.”
