1995 Memories on the Back 20:

The 55 miles per hour speed limit, which was set during the Middle East Oil Embargo of ’73/’74, was lifted.  Most states chose 65 as their top speed.  For about 4 years, Montana had no upper speed limit on roads that used to be 55 mph.
