2013 Memories on the Back 20:
In 2003, some members of the longtime feuding families, the Hatfields & McCoys, made an official truce. The fued began shortly after the Civil War, with accounts of it being started over a stolen pig or a mysterious murder. Accounts differ on how many died (and newspapers tended to exaggerate) but one account says 13, including one hanged after a legal trial.
After the partnership of the Hatfields & McCoy descendents in 2003, the governors of West Virginia and Kentucky both proclaimed June 14th as Hatfield and McCoy Reconciliation Day.
