1999 Memories on the Back 20:

Fight Club “ruled” at the box office, staring Edward Norton and Brad Pitt.

TiVo was introduced to the public, a game changer that let viewers record new episodes of a show based on the title, and that let people “pause live TV.”  Really, it was just making a recording of the current channel when you hit pause which you played back–a delay of a live show.  Viewers soon realized that this feature also let them fast forward through commercials if they let a show pause for 15 minutes or so before watching it.
