2 indicted in 2017 Alaska fatal apartment building fire

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – An Alaska grand jury has indicted two people suspected of causing a 2017 fire that killed three people and injured others in an Anchorage apartment complex.

Anchorage District Attorney Rick Allen announced Friday that 29-year-old Carleigh Fox and 30-year-old Andrew Eknaty were indicted on counts of second-degree murder, manslaughter, felony assault and arson.

They’re also charged with assault on an unborn child, conspiracy, evidence tampering and failure to control a dangerous fire.

They’re charged in the February 2017 fire that burned the Royal Suite Lodge, which displaced dozens.

Prosecutors say Fox eluded police after crashing her vehicle while intoxicated. Prosecutors say Eknaty drove the car to a carport under the apartment complex and started a fire in the car to destroy evidence.

Fox is in custody. Police are seeking Eknaty.
