Iditarod Champ Martin Buser spent the summer behind the scenes during the filming of Disney’s “Togo”. The movie is based on a true story about Leonhard Seppala and his dog sled team in the 1925 serum run to Nome across central and northern Alaska.
There are many scenes of Martin driving the dog sled…but you won’t see him. Actor Willem Defoe plays the part of Seppala. Martin gave Willem lessons of running with the dogs. Defoe actually drove the sled in several scenes.
Martin asked Willem if he was interested in the run to Nome during the next Iditarod. Defoe said “no way!”.
Togo premieres on Disney + beginning today!
