Online Application For The PFD Is Down, But Don’t Panic
KTVA: Alaska’s new revenue commissioner apologized on Wednesday for glitches to the state’s online Permanent Fund Dividend application that allowed people to see the personal information of other applicants.
Commissioner Bruce Tangeman said it could be several days before the site will be activated again.
“We have to figure out what the technical problem was, but then it’s going to be a whole lot of testing to make sure this does not happen again,” he said.
The online application, which is a new version this year, went up at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. State officials pulled it within a few hours after hearing reports of problems.
According to Tangeman, 99 people applied for dividends online during that time.
“Not everyone in that group experienced the problems that were reported,” he said. “We think that number will be relatively small.”
Tangeman did not yet know how many problems were reported. He said at some point the state might reach out to those affected, but it’s not the top priority right now.
“That is on our list of things to address, certainly, because we know that people are concerned about their private information,” Tangeman said. “Right now, it’s all hands on deck to get this system fixed, get the security in place and then bring it back online.”
