Suspect arrested in Anchorage crash that injured pedestrian
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – A woman suspected of leaving the scene of an Anchorage accident in which a pedestrian was seriously injured has been arrested on suspicion of operating under the influence of alcohol.
Anchorage police say 26-year-old Shawna Stephan on Sunday night also is suspected of reckless driving and driving with a revoked license.
Online court documents do not list Stephan’s attorney.
Police say an eastbound minivan made a U-turn at high speed on east 19th Avenue, struck a pedestrian and a fence, and drove off.
The pedestrian was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Patrol officers found the minivan outside an apartment and contacted Stephan inside.
Police say her breath alcohol content was almost three times above the legal limit. She remained in custody Monday at the Anchorage jail.
