William Clark Chamberlin Equestrian Center

History: This park is located in Section 16. The park contains a golf course, horse arena, park with play equipment and fitness area, Abbott O Rabbit little league fields, Springhill Elementary and Hanshew Junior High School.

The park was named for Ruth Arcand a local park advocate in 1983. Historically this area had been used for trail riding but when the golf course was developed many trails were lost. In 1984 volunteers began developing a new plan for trails.

The plan was approved in 1985 by Parks & Recreation & the Army Corp of Engineers. Funding was secured from private & public sources. The greatest portion of work was done with volunteer labor and donations of heavy equipment.

The equestrian center was named for William Clark Chamberlin in 1993 for all his work and donations for the horse community. The 18 hole golf course sits on 175 acres. This facility was dev
