ANCHORAGE, Alaska – February 28, 2019 – Firehouse Subs® announces the grand opening of its first location in Anchorage, Alaska at 345 W. 104th Ave. in Suite 100. The drive-thru restaurant will open its doors to the public on Friday, February 28, under the ownership of Firehouse Subs Franchisees Greg and Catharine Persinger.

Firehouse Subs serves a variety of hot specialty subs, piled high with premium meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh daily in-restaurant and steamed together to bring out the ingredients’ natural flavors, served “Fully Involved®” with fresh produce and condiments on a toasted sub roll. In addition to its signature subs, the restaurant offers a variety of catering options from sandwich and dessert platters to salads and snacks to fuel any occasion.

This is the second Firehouse Subs restaurant for the Persingers, who brought Firehouse Subs to Alaska as the brand’s 45th state in 2018 with the opening of the Fairbanks location. As fourth and fifth generation Alaskans, the Persingers are honored to continue bringing their lucky charm to their communities. Greg got to know the Firehouse Subs brand while traveling and competing as an American Curler and a member of Team USA for the 2018 World Men’s Curling Championship. He took the team to eat at Firehouse Subs early in the tournament, and they started winning. They continued to frequent the local restaurant and went on to win the national title.

Their new adventure with Firehouse Subs has given the Persingers a passion for sharing the brand’s commitment to giving back through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which has granted more than $50,000 in Alaska since the Fairbanks opening in 2018. A portion of every sale at any Firehouse Subs in the U.S. benefits the Foundation, allowing the Foundation to achieve its mission of providing lifesaving equipment, funding and education to first responders and public safety organizations across the country.

“It has been such a joy to bring our fresh, hot subs to our fellow Alaskans,” Catharine said. “But it’s also been an honor to see firsthand the result of all of our guests’ support of the Foundation. Greg and I are so thankful for how the Foundation been able to help the Fairbanks community, and we can’t wait to bring that to our friends, family and first responders in Anchorage.”

The Anchorage Firehouse Subs restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. In addition to the drive-thru, the restaurant will offer third-party delivery and in-house catering services to accommodate occasions of all sizes, from office meetings to family gatherings. Three dedicated to-go parking spots will also be available for guests picking up orders placed online.

Founded by former firefighting brothers Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, the restaurant décor reflects the founding family’s decades of fire and police service with gear and photos donated by local fire departments. The Anchorage restaurant boasts a custom, hand-painted mural by Chief Mural Artist Joe Puskas, featuring Flattop Mountain and an Anchorage Fire Department firefighter. Since the opening of the first Firehouse Subs in 1994, Puskas and his team have painted more than 1,180 murals from his studio at Firehouse Subs Headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla.

In 2005, the Firehouse Subs founders established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, lifesaving equipment and educational opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations. The 501(c)(3) Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has granted more than $48 million to hometown heroes in 49 states, Puerto Rico and Canada. Each restaurant recycles five-gallon pickle buckets, available to guests for a $3 donation to the Foundation. Donation canisters on register counters explain the nonprofit’s mission and collect spare change, while the Round Up Program allows guests to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar. All funds raised benefit the Foundation.
